Universal Network Concepts for Broadcast transmitters

Broadcast transmitters – this has up to now brought about the image of high TV towers or giant transmitter masts. Conventional large-size transmitters are covering large broadcast areas with high transmission power. This concept fits for nationwide TV and broadcast program providers, but not for regional and local providers as it is complex, costly and associated with high power consumption of transmitters.

Our solution

MUGLER has developed an alternative network concept for digital broadcasting. Unlike the usual procedure, we go without the erection of high power high tower antenna sites, as far as possible. Instead, by using existent building structures, we create a cellular network with several transmitter sites and small cells, which are networked failsafe via microwave. The playout multiplexing of the program bouquet takes place directly onsite at a central transmitter site and the subsequent program transfer to the transmitters may also take place via microwave. The local network is operated as a GPS-synchronized single frequency network, resulting in an enhanced reception, in particular, for mobile end-users.

Low power consumption and low costs for the network operation are already in our spotlight while planning the network and individual sites. The transmitters are consciously erected close to the future end-user; their reduced transmission power and range will allow the exact restriction of the coverage area without any oversupply.

Therewith, local channels can concentrate on reporting from their licensed area and preclude additional costs for program broadcasting to remote areas.
