DVB-T local in Lucerne
TV spectators in the greater Lucerne area can now receive the Central Swiss Television Tele 1 also via DVB-T since early March 2011. Tele 1 supplies its broadcast area with local and breaking daily news. Hitherto, the local television channels in Switzerland can almost exclusively be received via cable networks. So, the digital-terrestrial broadcasting of a Swiss private TV-station is a true novelty. The DVB-T test operation was made possible by material and financial support from companies of the private sector. MUGLER contributes to the project with comprehensive know-how gained from already implemented local DVB-T-networks, among others, in Leipzig and Halle. MUGLER developed and delivered the playout multiplexer required for conditioning of the program bouquet and the DVB-T-transmitter. The technical equipment used has been configured in modular design and can be extended accordingly. As far as desired, an enlargement of service area and operation as single-frequency network (SFN) with other TV-stations will be possible.
The project was created in terms of a long-term successful partnership between MUGLER and KEYMILE in the field of broadcast technology. Already since 2007, both companies have been jointly present on the SwissRadioDay in Zurich, demonstrating there compley data transmission solutions for digital radio technologies such as DVB-T and DAB.
In the one-year pilot project, the marketing opportunities, general acceptance and behavior in use shall be tested in addition to technical issues.
