Volleyball players coming from telecommunication businesses meet at the last weekend of September...
By now, it has become a tradition: Volleyball players coming from various telecommunication businesses meet in Saxony for an exhibition match at the last weekend of September.
For the this year’s 15th telecommunication volleyball cup, 16 teams were at start, among them, eight Vodafone and two Telekom teams as well as sportsmen from Ericsson, E-Plus/ALNS, Blue Wonder Communications, Actix, Dresden Technical University and, as already common for many years, one MUGLER team.
This year, the match did not take place in the gym of Dresden Technical University as usual as that is just in the course of renovation. The organizers relocated the competitions to the Freital Center of Vocational Training. Because of the Freital gym being much smaller than the TU gym with only three playing grounds , this time, the match was organized according to a modified “k.o. system” instead of a first round with successive play-off.
The MUGLER team took on the previous year’s winner E-Plus just in the first match. Team captain Uwe Krautwurst and his fellow campaigners shaded this hard-fought competition, but won the successive match distinctly with a score of 25:5. The next two matches – the competitors were the subsequent match winner and the third-place finisher - were lost narrowly with a score of 23:25 each. At the end, our team got a very good 6th place. The final match between E-Plus / ALNS and Bautzen Vodafone Call Center was won by the Saxon “Vodafon men” in three sets.
